Corrections Policy

Accurate reporting is the foundation of independent journalism. When we err, we correct the record promptly, transparently, and with sufficient context that readers can see what changed and why.

How we issue corrections#

When a substantive error of fact reaches us — whether from a reader, an editor, or a source — we update the article in place, prepend a dated note describing the correction, and where the error reached print or social distribution we issue a parallel correction in those channels.

How to report a correction#

Email corrections@thechronicle.example with the article URL, the specific passage you believe is incorrect, and any sources we should consider. We aim to respond to every correction request within two business days.

Distinguishing corrections from updates#

A correction addresses a factual error in the original reporting. An update reflects new information that has emerged since publication and that, on its own, would not have been wrong. Both are dated and disclosed; only corrections trigger a notice prepended to the article.
