Terms of Service

Agreement#

By using The Chronicle ("the Service") you agree to these

Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the

Service.

These Terms govern your access to the website and any

related services. We may amend them from time to time; the

date at the foot of this page records the most recent

revision. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.

Who we are

The Chronicle is an independent news publication. References

to "we," "us," and "our" in these Terms refer to The Chronicle

and its operator.

Acceptable use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes. You

agree not to:

- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service or to any

account other than your own;

- scrape, mirror, or systematically harvest content for

commercial redistribution without our written permission;

- interfere with or disrupt the operation of the Service;

- circumvent rate limits, paywalls, or other access controls;

- use the Service in a manner that violates any applicable

law, regulation, or third-party right.

Accounts

If you create an account, you are responsible for keeping your

credentials secure and for all activity under your account.

Notify us promptly of any suspected unauthorised use.

We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these

Terms, with or without notice, at our reasonable discretion.

Content

Our content

All editorial content on the Service — articles, photographs,

graphics, audio, video, design, software, and trade marks —

is owned by The Chronicle or by the contributors and licensors

named on it. You may read, link to, quote briefly, and share

URLs to our work. Any other reproduction requires our written

permission, unless it falls within a recognised exception in

applicable copyright law.

Reader-submitted content

When you submit content to the Service (for example, a

correction request, a letter to the editor, or an account

profile), you represent that you have the right to do so. You

grant The Chronicle a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide

licence to host, display, and reproduce the submission for the

purpose of operating the Service and exercising our editorial

function. You may withdraw a submission at any time by

deleting it from your account or by writing to us.

Subscriptions, gifts, and payments

The Service does not currently charge for access. When

subscription features go live, they will be governed by a

distinct subscription agreement presented at the point of

sale. Pricing, billing, refund, and renewal terms applicable

to subscriptions are set out in that agreement and prevail

over these general Terms with respect to paid features.

Editorial standards and corrections

The Chronicle aims for accuracy and transparency. When we get

something wrong we correct the record openly, with a dated

note attached to the article. We do not silently delete

errors. To request a correction, write to us at the address

below.

Source protection

Where we publish material based on confidential sources, we

treat the identity of those sources as a matter of editorial

ethics. We will not knowingly disclose source identities

except as required by court order and after exhausting

reasonable legal remedies.

Third-party links and material

The Service contains links to third-party websites and

embedded third-party media. We do not control those

destinations and accept no responsibility for their content,

their privacy practices, or their availability. Visiting a

linked third party is at your own risk.

Availability and changes

We aim to keep the Service available continuously but do not

guarantee any specific level of uptime. We may modify,

suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time

for any reason without liability.

Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available"

basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, The Chronicle

disclaims all express and implied warranties, including

warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular

purpose, and non-infringement.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, The Chronicle will

not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential,

special, punitive, or exemplary damages arising out of or in

connection with your use of the Service. Our total cumulative

liability for any claim arising out of or in connection with

the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you have

paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim or one

hundred US dollars.

Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot, by

law, be limited.

Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold The Chronicle and its

contributors harmless from any claim, demand, or expense

arising out of your breach of these Terms or your misuse of

the Service.

Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms and any dispute arising out of them are governed

by the laws of the Republic of Iraq. You agree to the

exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of the

Republic of Iraq for any dispute that cannot be resolved

amicably.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held to be unenforceable,

the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.

Changes to these Terms

We may revise these Terms at any time. The date at the foot

of this page records the latest revision. Where a change is

material we will announce it at the top of the Service for

thirty days before it takes effect.
